Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an exercise designed to promote the development of communication skills among UCAM doctoral students. Participants have three minutes to explain their research directly, clearly, and eloquently in language appropriate for a non-expert audience.
The first 3MT® competition was held at the University of Queensland (Australia) in 2008, with the participation of 160 doctoral students. Interest in the 3MT® concept quickly grew, leading to its adoption by numerous universities and soon culminating in the creation of an international competition.
Currently, several Spanish universities (Valladolid, Salamanca, Public University of Navarre, Lleida, La Rioja, Alcalá de Henares, Carlos III, among others) have adopted 3MT® as a cross-disciplinary training tool and as a strategy for promoting scientific research.
The Catholic University of Murcia joins this group of pioneering universities with a competition that will take place from next March and will have its final phase in the XII Research and Doctoral Conference: ‘Researchers around the world’ of UCAM.
